Food Activists Revolutionizing Meals (FARM) Coalition organized and ran a Farmer’s Market at USF at Sessum’s Mall on the USF Campus. The market brought farmers, beekeepers, and students together to purchase vegetables and more.
FARM is a coalition made up of representatives from various organizations such as USF Community Gardens, Women’s Federation for World Peace and Student Environmental Association. FARM hopes to make Farmer’s Markets on campus a more regular occurrence. The members of the FARM coalition recognize the importance that local food play not only in boosting our local economy but also in the health of the community.
There are different angles from which the FARM Coalition is really impacting the Food Movement here in the campus area, a group of students are working to get the policy of USF’s Dining Services changed to include a clause which asks for 20% “real food” be used in the used in campus food by 2020. This campaign is also known as the Real Food Challenge with “real food” being defined as local, organic and humane.
