Today is Campus Sustainability Day and what better way to celebrate at USF than to award money to the first Student Green Energy Fund proposals. Twelve council members, consisting of faculty, staff and USF students, awarded money to four projects for the fall cycle:
- Solar panel installations in the Marshall Center
- PV at the College of Engineering for an electric vehicle charging station
- Solar umbrellas at Champion?s Choice to power electronics
- Energy-efficient lighting at the Central Utilities Plant
Submissions and review of the proposals were conducted electronically. Reviews by a Technical Advisory Board, consisting of faculty and staff from USF along with members of the community, aided in the decisions made by the SGEF Council. With the help of the SGEF, USF is striving to achieve greater energy-savings and reduce its contribution to greenhouse gas emissions.
